Plantas simples, escasamente o no ramificadas desde su base y con pocas ramas superiores de 1m de altura. Tallos con tubérculos segmentados romboidales. Areolas grandes, muy juntas. 20 o más espinas de hasta, algunos pequeñas, inclinadas hacia atrás y algunas centrales más largas. Flores de color rojo intenso, de 7 cm de largo.
Distribución: desde el norte de Lima a Ancash, Perú.
Plants simple, sparsely or not branched basally, few branches above, to 1 m high. Stem segments rhomboid-tuberculate,to 8 cm in diameter, with conspicuous and numerous spiraling tubercles, spines throughout. Areoles large, close set. Spines as many as 20 or more, wiry, some small, bent backward, to 2 cm long, some centrals longer. Flowers brilliant red, to 7 cm long.
Distribution: Lima north to Ancash, Peru.
