CLEISTOCACTUS

Cleistocactus es un género con 49 especies de cactus columnares nativos de Perú, Uruguay, Bolivia y Argentina. Deriva su nombre del griego kleistos que significa cerrado, a causa de las flores que apenas se abren.Los tallos son altos y sobre todo delgados y a menudo muchos ramifican con las numerosas costillas y espinas dorsales juntas. Las flores son tubulares y apenas abiertas, siendo visibles solamente el estilo y los estambres.

Cleistocactus is a genus of 49 species of columnar cactus native to Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina. It derives its name from the Greek meaning Kleist closed because of the flowers that just opened. The stems are tall and thin and often especially many branching with numerous ribs and backbones together. The flowers are tubular and barely open, being visible only the style and stamens.
