El género Eulychnia se caracteriza por presentar especies con diferentes hábitos de crecimiento. Las hay de crecimiento arbóreo, que pueden superar los 6 m de altura, como también, de tendencia arbustiva y con tallos semitendidos. Las costillas son notorias y las espinas, que son de largo variable, adquieren
formas de aguja o de punzón. Las flores, de tonalidades blancas o rosadas, son cortas, gruesas y se presentan en forma de campanas.
