Del Chaco boliviano, Paraguay y centro norte de Argentina, crece en bosquecillos xerofilos bajos y espinosos. Es facil de reconocer por su epidermis veteada y sus espinas en "Y". Por sus caracteristicas florales es afin a los cereus, con los cuales frecuentemente forman hibridos esteriles, sin embargo sus frutos y semillas son muy diferentes.
Bolivian Chaco, Paraguay and north-central Argentina, growing in low and thorny xerophytic thickets. It is easily recognized by its mottled skin and bones "Y". By their characteristics is related to floral cereus, with which hybrids are often sterile, but its fruits and seeds are very different.
