Nativo de las regiones desérticas de las montañas de Perú, el género fue nombrado en honor al explorador, naturalista y científico peruano nacido en Italia, Antonio Raimondi. Es columnar, cespitoso y ramoso desde la base. Las flores, rosa y púrpura, diurnas, estivales, se caracterizan por el grueso tubo que sostiene la corola.
Native to the desert regions of the mountains in Peru, the genus is named after the explorer, naturalist and Peruvian scientist born in Italy, Antonio Raimondi. It is columnar, and caespitose branched from the base. The flowers, pink and purple, day, summer and are characterized by a thick tube that holds the corolla.
